THE CHRISTMAS KNITTING ALL GOT DONE.
This is going to be a REALLY long post, so I’m trying a cut link for the first time ever. We’ll see how this goes.
But first, here is a little preview of what’s behind the cut.
Marie Club Monkeys
Mardi Gras Socks
Dad’s French Press Cozy
Purple Phineas Socks and The Biggest Socks Ever
Also under the cut: UT Hats, and the Grand Canyon Beanie.
Hey! I am Laura, Captain of the Failboat. Seriously.
I blame my Winter Concert. It has been sucking my will to knit, among other things, but now that it’s done (it was last night, December 10th, and it went really well!) I can post about knitting stuff!
I have been working on Christmas presents. I really have. I have things knit for everyone in my family, with the exception of Mom’s, which I am 90% done with. I’m about 75% done with KK’s second knitted gift, and have plans for Rachel’s, I just have to buckle down and get them done.
This means that I haven’t been working on stuff for me. Yeah, I did the sweater. And yeah, I did the neckwarmer. But I haven’t progressed on anything since. It still have 1.5 Mardi Gras Socks done, and I still have a ways to go on the Marie Club Socks. Christmas knitting has sucked my will to knit for any other purpose.
I say “sucked my will to …” but it should really be along the lines of “consumed my attention,” because knitting can’t really suck the will out of anything. It’s too fun for that.
OH! THE MOST EXCITING THING EVER: I signed up for the “Hogwarts Knitting/Crochet House Cup” on Ravelry! I CANNOT WAIT. Two of my favorite things combined: 1) knitting, and 2) the Harry Potter fandom!
For this, we are sorted into Houses, and I hope to be put in Hufflepuff. It was my first choice. Also, we have “classes,” which are essentially challenges, and we earn House Points. So, for Herbology last term, the assignment was to make a dishcloth out of hemp or a organic/natural fiber. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS TO START! The Winter Term starts in January. I cannot wait, it’s going to be so awesome.
Now that my concert is over, I feel that a lot more knitting will happen. HOPEFULLY!
Last thing: I like this layout, but I need a custom header. Ideas, anyone? My computer with Photoshop is on the fritz, so it will be a while before I can make one, but I want some ideas.
Meet my Azure Socks, everyone!
This is the 8th attempt at these socks. If you remember, I started them in May, and then ripped them out twice over the course of one weekend in Texas. (Okay, so maybe it isn’t actually the 8th attempt, but it’s at least the 5th or 6th.)
Now, I have 2 heels, and just have to do the leg and cuff. VICTORY!
I am in love with them. I also have the urge to knit EVERYTHING with Ranco. I cannot believe how beautiful it is. The colors are glorious and look beautiful together. I was expecting stripes, but the distribution of the colors is amazing and I’m glad it is variegated, rather than striped.
The pictures aren’t that great, BUT. The socks themselves are amazing and coming along nicely.
So, I am devoting all my knitting attention to these socks at the moment, but I do have other things that I need to finish:
- Phineas socks for my dear sister Kathryn
- Marie Club socks for me
- Mardi Gras socks for me
- Jayne Cobb Hat for either me, Jessica, or Jonnie
And then LOTS of things that I WANT to knit, but haven’t started yet:
- Red cardigan (Cascade 220)
- Various Market Bags
- Classroom Sweater (Berrocco Alpaca and Undecided variegated yarn)
I’ve been seeing a lot of cardigans on Ravelry that I want to knit, but they all involve seaming. Curses! I could probably adapt the pattern for raglan sleeves, but we’ll see.
Still in love.
LET THE KNITTING ROLL. (Not completely accurate, but close enough.)
First of all! SOCKS! Well, sock. Singular. Only one right now.
On Ravelry, they’re called “laissez les SOCKS rouler.” I think I am SO clever.
I did the toe on two DPNs, and when my Knit Picks order came (which I will talk about later!) I switched to my Magic Loop needles. I LOVE MAGIC LOOP. I am NEVER doing anything on DPNs again.
Also, I LOVE THIS YARN. It’s hand-painted that I bought from somebody on Etsy, and it is GLORIOUS. I’m getting 10 stitches/inch, but still! It is so soft, I want to take a bath in it.This is me, cuddling the awesomeness:
NEXT! My Bad Penny pullover. Oh, man. This is going to be awesome. I did a little waist shaping, and now I am almost ready to start with the contrasting color. Here are pictures:
It is going to be so awesome! The yellow is going to look great, and it’ll be an excellent representation of my personality. Me, in solid colors. Instead of my usual spastic amounts of colors.
Now, My Knit Picks order!
It came on Friday, which was AWESOME, because I had started the toe of the Mardi Gras sock on Wednesday. Yarn stats first: I got 4 (2 of each) colors of Palette, and one of Essential. 2 of the Palettes will turn into socks for KK and Rachel, and the rest of the sock yarn is for me. I want to use them to do more complicated patterns, not just straight stockinette. Here’s the sock yarn!
And I also got the Georgian cotton sampler. The yarn itself looks great, I’m not too impressed with the patterns that came with it, but we’ll see. The colors are also more pastel than I usually like, but I really picked it for the yellow ball of Shine Worsted. I really like knitting with cotton, so it’ll be really nice to see how these yarns knit up.
That is that. Wow, that was really long, I felt. YAY!
