Taking the results of yesterday’s poll into consideration, here’s what I did today.

With the help of my dear friend Christina Marie, I turned this:

into this:

I have decided to completely start the pattern over. I’m going to swatch again, and probably go up a needle size. I will definitely update on my progress as I attempt to finally conquer My Knitting Everest.

Azure Sock Dilemma

So, I have this problem.

My Azure Socks have been in Time Out since September 2008, when they offended me greatly by not fitting my foot after I’d put in countless hours of work on them, complete with false starts, ripping out, and tears of frustration.

I have come to the point in my knitting career (I don’t know if that’s the exact word I want, but it’s what we’re gonna go with for now.) where I feel like I can pick them up and deal with them like a Mature, Accomplished Sock Knitter. They have had time to think about what they’ve done, and I’ve had time to deal with the pain associated with them. I feel like I’m ready to try and finish them.

The pattern is literally my favorite sock pattern EVER, and I’ve always said that finishing them would be My Knitting Everest. I think I’m ready to start climbing again.

ALL THAT BEING SAID, I have this dilemma. I want to just pick them up and rip out the heel and go from there. I don’t know how easy that’s going to be, so I have been contemplating ripping them out entirely and starting from scratch.

Here’s a handy-dandy poll:

If you read this and feel strongly either way, please weigh in on this matter. I have NO IDEA what I’m going to do, and I want opinions. THANKS!

death eaters, come on let’s dance

Around the middle of September, a lovely girl named TJ (that I met at Terminus, but we didn’t figure out that we had met until later, when discussing tutorial options) contacted me through this here knitting blog to ask about me perhaps contributing a knitting tutorial for an onine fanzine she was putting together with a friend of hers, Athena.

I must pimp:
SPEW website: Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare
Athena’s LJ post about the zine: veganwrocker – SPEW Zine

We decided that I would do a Knit-Your-Own-Hat Tutorial for the October 31 issue. I was SO EXCITED about it! (I still am!) I used some simple, easy-to-acquire Lion Brand Wool-Ease, and did just a basic garter stitch hat. Knit flat! There is no binding off, even, just threading yarn through the stitches to cinch it up at the top. I’m really happy with the way the hat turned out, because it is very basic, and I think (hope!) that it is easy to follow.

I finished the instructions last night, scanned some images from The Knitter’s Bible to explain casting on waaaay better than I could with words, and set it all up in a word doc. Now all I have to do is move some pictures from my camera into the word doc, and send it on its way!

I hope Athena and TJ like it, and that zine subscribers actually enjoy it.

Also: SERIOUSLY, WORDPRESS? 3 weeks after I needed a poll on my blog, NOW you decide to make the “Add Poll” tool? EPIC FAIL.

shamed! about not blogging

I have been SUUUUUCH a bad blogger, and I apologize.

I do have FOs to show you, but no pictures to post and HONESTLY, what is a FO post without pictures of said FO?? I mean, really.

I can tell you a few things that I’m doing which are new to me:

  • Felting. I am knitting hats and felting them. These need to be done by August, so we’ll see how that goes.
  • Socks 2-at-a-time. I’m only about halfway done with the toe increases, but I am LOVING IT so far.
  • SAVING THE WORLD. Okay, not really. But I have knit 2 reusable market/grocery store bags that Jessica and I use. We are going to save the world, one plastic bag at a time.
  • Designing. I’ve had an idea floating around in my head for a while now, and I think it’s time to put it into action.

So, there  you go.

note to self

I swatched for my Azure sock(s) last night, and I almost got gauge, so I decided to cast on tonight anyway.

First of all, the cast on (Magic Cast On) is REALLY DIFFICULT! It took me 3 tries to wrap my head around it, and once I did (the 4th time) then I did the increases wrong, and had two huge holes in the toe. It just wasn’t coming together. Woe.

I blame the dancing. (OR THE MOLE!)

(Also, I have pictures of things, but don’t have the time to upload them now.)

then you need awesome lessons

If I’m knitting from the top down, do I read a chart from the top down?

I’m approaching the lace part of the ribbing of my Bad Penny, and I’m just wondering about the chart. I don’t want to mess it up.

the world is my knitting april fool’s joke

Of course.

I ran out to JoAnn’s after my Brittany needle broke, just to get a set of aluminum US2s, and they didn’t have 2s. I got a set of 1s, and I’m using the rest of the wood set until I can get a full set of 2s.

I was sort of over the Brittany ones, anyway.
