catastrophe!

Either I never had them, or MY US9 KNITPICKS OPTIONS TIPS ARE MISSING.

I’m thinking that I never had them, because I have two sets of US10.5 tips. One set is too big for the US10 hole on my gauge, but a little too small for the US10.5 hole. ARGH.

In other news, my second sock is almost halfway done! An inch or two more, and I can turn the heel. I also made a Star Stitch Headband yesterday. I don’t have pictures yet, because it is blocking in the living room.

thoughts/plans/ideas

So, Dani recently gave me about 9 balls of Debbie Bliss Cotton DK in a really awesome orange color. I wanted to make something wearable with it, because I LOVE being able to wear my cardigan around and I’m really proud to tell people that I made it.

I looked up the yarn on Ravelry, and a lot of people had made the Rusted Root pullover (Ravelry link) with that yarn. Here’s the link to the website, where I can purchase it for $5.50.

The more I look at the projects on Ravelry, the more I REALLY want to make it. A few things are troubling me, though.

  • I’ve never purchased a pattern before
  • I’ve never done lace before, and it has a lace panel
  • I’ve never knit really anything big in the round

By “big” I mean, “bigger than fingerless mitts, or socks.” Not even hats. I’ve only really made one hat, and it was knit on US15 straights, because I don’t have circs bigger than US11. Sidenote: I should probably order the bigger Harmony tips to go with my set. Hmmm.

I’m really, REALLY strongly considering buying the pattern. I really love looking at all the FOs on Ravelry, and I want mine to be there, too! I even found one that was made in the same yarn, in the same color! I was like, “That’s what MINE would look like!” So, well see.

Also! We’re flying to New Orleans today! I’m completely done packing. In fact, OVERpacking, which I always do. And I’m taking some knitting that I need to get done before the end of March. I called both airlines that we’re flying with, and both said that I could bring knitting needles, so YAY!

FO: Quant II

Some weekend knitting.

Instead of doing REAL work, or working on birthday presents for some VIPs in my life, naturally, I thought it was a great idea to knit something else for me. 😀

I have, like Super CreepyFace in these pictures, my bad. I like the lighting on the second one, though. It’s REALLY HARD to take a picture of your own head, and Jessica wasn’t home when I wanted pictures, so, you get the CreepyFace.

SPECS:

Patttern: Quant, from Winter 07 Knitty

Yarn: SWTC Karaoke, color #306

Mods: Went down to US5 needles this time, so it’s skinnier and shorter than the last one. Still, only did about 8 inches of i-cord, and I should’ve done the suggested 10 inches. (Interesting note: Firefox just tried to tell me that “should’ve” was mispelled, which I found amusing.)

Thoughts: Slightly more muted colors this time, which usually aren’t my style, but I love this one. The yarn I used was more subtle than the other one, but still gorgeous – it had an almost tweed-y look to it. The colors had a more gradient feel to them this time, which was nicer than the sort of color-block feel last time. I felt that they blended better from one color into the next. Again, should have done the 10 inches of i-cord, but hindsight’s always 20/20. Oh well, nothing I ever make will be 100% perfect, and I think that’s the beauty of Handmade Things. One of a kind, every time.

In other news, I’ve been reading The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs, which I picked up last week at Borders. I’m enjoying it so far. Chicklit is sort of my genre, some of the time. When it’s not HP or Neil Gaiman.

SESAME IS DONE!

OMG, AND IT IS AMAZING!

One sleeve is shorter than the other, and I didn’t get the buttons I’d originally intended, but I. LOVE. IT.

SPECS:

Started: August 2007 (Don’t remember specific date)

Finished: March 3, 2008

Pattern: Sesame, by Melissa Wherle, in the August 05 MagKnits

Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton-Ease in Stone (about 7 balls), and Lake (about 2.5 balls)

Mods: I didn’t use the recommended yarn (do I ever?), made the body a little longer by adding extra rows of straight stockinette, and I obviously didn’t do the striping that is in the original patter.

Extras: awesome bone buttons purchased at Knit Las Vegas, THE BEST LYS EVER! I had originally intended to get some really awesome anchor buttons, but they were too small for the buttonholes. Christine (the lovely owner) came over and helped me decide which buttons would look best.

I’ve been wearing it EVERYWHERE this week. The question is, what the hell doI knit now? Kidding! I’m knitting 3 dinosaurs; 3 more Tardo Stegs. Two are for KK and Rachel (my little sisters) and one is for Christa, whose birthdays are all in March. I have the body and one leg done of one, so I need to get crackin’!
